Who We Are
Welcome to the Volunteer Build Site page!
Update (dated 09/06/21):
- Please note that we are working on a modified Covid Schedule effective 09/01/21 with modified hours (see below for more details).
- Due to Covid, we are ONLY accepting individual volunteers that have volunteered with us before. At this current time, the Build Site is NOT accepting new or community service volunteers.
- If you are a new volunteer or a volunteer from the community service program, you will be directed to sign up to volunteer with the ReStore.
- Please note that the Build Site is not requiring that volunteers have their Covid-19 vaccination, and likewise cannot confirm the status of other individuals you may be volunteering with.
- The ReStore has different requirements than the Build Site. Please refer to their volunteer page for more information on what their volunteer requirements are.
- Additional Updates will be made as they come available.
For individual volunteers:
- We are currently scheduling Individual Volunteer Build Days on a modified Covid Schedule effective 09/01/21. What We Do
Every Helping Hand Makes a Difference
Whether you’re a skilled crafts-person or you’ve never picked up a hammer, volunteering with Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity offers you a meaningful way to help families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable home ownership in the Fredericksburg area.
What to Expect: When volunteering at our Build Site you can expect to do anything ranging from painting, trim work, window cleaning, landscaping, and carpentry work. Tasks are assigned by our Construction Field Manager and/or our Construction Program Manager, Emily Berg, and by our designated Leadership Volunteers on days when there are large groups of volunteers. No previous construction experience necessary.
Location: We are currently finishing work on our South Street homes in the Mayfield Subdivision but will soon be moving locations to Plantation Forest Drive in Spotsylvania by the Courthouse. Any changes to the location will be made when the time arises.
Clothing: Dress in clothing appropriate to the weather. Shorts/short sleeve shirts are acceptable in the Summer, but long pants will keep your legs better protected so do take that into consideration. You must wear closed toe shoes. There may also be times the construction site will be muddy, so please wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty.
Inclement Weather: We build year round and builds are rain or shine. We email updates the week of a build if we suspect we may need to move or cancel your build, so please check your email before your shift. If you have not been notified of any changes for your build, but the weather is questionable the morning of your build, please contact Emily at (571) 594-1318 or by e-mail to emily.berg@fredhab.org for any changes before heading to the build site.
Parking: We want to limit the impact our presence has on the neighborhoods we build. Most of the neighborhoods we build in are small with limited parking, so having numerous volunteers converge on them several times a week can cause some concern. Please try to carpool to the build site when possible. Please do not park on the neighbors' grass, impede traffic by parking on both sides of the road, or block driveways or mailboxes. We want to ensure the neighborhoods we build in have a positive experience by our presence. We appreciate your assistance with this!
Arrival/Lunch/Bathrooms: Please be sure to arrive on time to get signed in. If you are signing up for a full day, please plan to pack a lunch or be prepared to purchase one from a local restaurant. We have a refrigerator available to store any cold items. We provide water on site.
Many thanks in advance for dedicating your time and talents to Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity!
