Steps to finalizing your Galaxy account
and signing up for a volunteer shift:
1. Make a basic profile by clicking on Sign Up.
2. After making your profile, you're in! Explore to get a feel for the system!
3. Please be patient as we process your informal* background check. When your background check clears, you will receive an email from our Volunteer Coordinator letting you know that you're good to go! It should be a 1 or 2 day process.** Thank you for your patience.
4. While you are waiting for your background to clear, you can explore the system all you like! When you are ready, click on "Opportunities" on the left side menu.
5. Select the opportunity you are interested in. We have two main opportunity types: ReStore volunteering and Build Site volunteering. But at any given time, there may be other opportunities available as well. Feel free to explore!
6. Once you select an opportunity, click "respond," and a pop-up menu will appear. That alerts you that you have "Qualifications" to finish before you can begin volunteering.
Part of this orientation process used to be in-person at our office. But now, due to coronavirus precautions, the orientation process now occurs entirely online! Set aside about 30 minutes for the initial online process.
7. ALL new volunteers must sign the Volunteer Waiver and watch the orientation video. When you sign the waiver online, there will be a short waiting period (usually one or two days) before you can sign up for a volunteer shift, as our Volunteer Coordinator must first confirm that we have successfully received the waiver online, before you can sign up for a shift.
8. Depending on the "qualifications" for the volunteer opportunity you've selected, there will likely be more tasks you need to perform. For example, our Build Site volunteers must watch our Build Site safety video, and then take the online safety quiz. Don't worry; the system will inform you exactly what qualifications you need to pass for each opportunity you click on.
9. Running short of time? No worries! You can come back later to watch the videos or take the quizzes, at your convenience.
Having trouble navigating the process? Please reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator for help. That's why we're here!

** If you are a court-related volunteer, the initial setup process tends to take a bit longer. We appreciate your patience. There are some additional paperwork and background processing steps for our court-related volunteers.
Our Volunteer Coordinator will be in touch with you via email about these steps as soon as possible. The more quickly you respond to those emails, the more quickly you can get started!
In order to receive an official letter of verification of volunteer hours to present to the legal system, court-related volunteers must go through our court-related intake process. Hours performed outside of our court-related program will not be eligible for verification to the court or legal system.
